Churches of Goa

Goa is very beautiful destination in India. It is the smallest state of India and in situated in the konkan region of India's west coast. Goa is now also called the beach capital of the nation. It has managed to retain a quaint colonial flavor that is very evident in its negligent hippy culture, sun kissed beaches, colossal forts and stunning churches are very charming places in Goa.

Goa's have gorgeous churches and are famous for their attractive architecture that usually combines two or more forms of construction. Whether, it is the decorative style of architecture or the over-elaborate altars and Gothic staircases forms churches. Most of the Goan churches we see today were built in Old Goa during the Portuguese subjugation of the state. Owing to its splendid churches, Old Goa is now a world heritage place.

Church Of St. Francis of Assisi

Church of St.Francis of Assisi situated in Old Goa is a 17th century pieces of religious art. A beautiful octagonal tabernacle richly decorated in an elaborate style has two statues, one of St. Francis of Assisi and the other of Jesus on the Cross. Swears of deficiency, modesty and agreement of St. Francis of Assisi's are in scripted right below these two statues.

Chapel of St. Catherine

Chapel of St.Catherine situated in Old Goa is devoted to St. Catherine. It stands as a living monument of the take-over of Goa by Albuquerque. At one enters the chapel you will see a statue of Our Lady. There is also a beautiful altar dedicated to St. Catherine upon which stands another statue of Our Lady of Piety.
